500 Days to Offload

Well, here I go again. I wrote 100 posts in a year, in fact, a bit more than that, with a couple short game reviews I decided not to count separately, and one post I didn’t promote using the hashtag on my socials.

In any case, I’m happy that I continue to be writing rather consistently throughout these past few months! I don’t think I have a lot of new stuff to say when it comes to the challenge and what it’s all about. I simply participate for the love of the game at this point.

In case you are wondering, for the duration of this challenge run I wrote:

• 29 weeknotes
• 7 monthly summaries
• 8 game reviews
• 7 book reviews
• 5 blog replies

That makes for 56 blog posts that were somewhat of a given, I already mentioned when I completed this challenge in the past, how those sort of posts can feel like homework instead of something born from real inspiration. Although my game reviews have had a much higher word count in average compared to previous years and I like to say I am extremely proud of them nowadays.

I have to admit, I am not sure if any of my posts were as great or thought-provoking this time around, so far at least. It was a much more relaxed approach and I think I focused on writing more about experiences and slices of my life, instead of trying to share an opinion on some current event or technology. It’s a bit of a letdown maybe but no big deal. May as well do a short overview of what those posts were about!

In January, for example, I mostly stuck to recaps and weeknotes, and only one post was a short experience I wanted to share, about buying a phone case for my mom..

February was full of posts, but I mostly wrote about Land of Eem, sharing all about my first (and so far only) session DMing the game with friends.. I did a couple rambles about how I enjoy poking at many videogames rather than committing to just one, about old devices I don’t use much nowadays, and how setting up phones is a nightmare, which got a lot of unwanted attention from Hacker News, though on a positive note, it was replied to by Rubenerd! All in all, the one post I reminisce about the most from this month is the one where I shared how my Sunday went when it seemed like my whole city and state were in disarray.

During March there were even more posts! Many good ones too, I got a bit creative doing a one-page notebook, wrote about my favorite literary genre, reminisced about old videogames in cereal boxes and ended up with one of my favorite posts, talking about the joy of unpolished human websites.

April saw a lot of activity from me as well, starting with my craze for the XTEINK X4 e-book reader, a couple of more confessions as a FOSS enthusiast and a couple of rather personal and introspective posts, where I talked about my life and future, as well as how introverted I often am. I feel kind of proud of my review of Resident Evil as well, so I felt like mentioning it too.

Once May showed up, things started to chill for a bit, but with my fascination of the XTEINK in the past, I somehow ended up obessed with bicycles instead! I documented my journey from looking for a bike, buying one and also riding it!. This was another month with a blogpost that got me a bit of an audience as well, when I wrote about performative blogging which got to the top of Bubbles. My post about brand loyalty was kind of fun too. I also tried to commit to beating at least four games before september ended with the Summer Game Challenge, and shared on update on my home screen.

I think June is where I started to feel a bit uninspired compared to previous years, though maybe it’s just that I started to do more real life activites and writing about them? The cycling and the world cup kept me busy lately which led to less writing overall. In any case, I did share about how I rarely finish posts if I don’t write them in one go, I exposed my bad spending habits showing my whole physical Nintendo Switch collection and did a whole ramble about my uninspired writing, yay!

And we got to the last month it took for me to complete this challenge, the year is barely past the half-way mark, but a hundred posts were written, and well, I ended up geting into the Nintendo 3DS, I wrote about how I lost my phone and got it back, then a weird question I got at work about how I am happy all the time, and last but not least, a very cringe experience at a work webinary on AI.

Honestly, I definitely didn’t expect for the challenge to be over already! I had a couple more ideas, I haven’t even done my recap for 2025, or my post about the Max Steel toys and movies. So much more stuff to write about, but alas, it will come soon.
